As part of our job skills outreach initiative, the eVero Outreach team, led by Joseph, Gillian, and Melissa, had the pleasure of hosting individuals from the Halo Network of Services (“Halo”) at our office on July 23rd for a morning of mock interviews. Each participant met with two or three different eVero employees for practice job interviews aimed at increasing their comfort level with in-person meetings and helping them refine their interviewing skills. This opportunity proved beneficial for both the participants and the eVero employees.
This day was especially meaningful for Melissa, one of our employees who is very familiar with HALO:
I am a Support Triage Technician with eVero and have been part of the team since June 2022. I’m here because I expressed an interest in entering the technology field. I am also a writing consultant at Halo, where I offer assistance to individuals who are disabled but have a keen interest in creative writing, and sharing their stories. Together we create an internal Halo newsletter. I also am an individual that receives Self Direction and SEMP through halo, where I am blessed with an ongoing support system filled with a Broker, Paid Neighbor, and a Job Coach.
All of these things help cultivate a more personal goal of mine to have poetry more open to more disabled individuals, children, and those who may be shy, but have a lot to write! I want others to feel comfortable in their words, even when times are tough. I had the pleasure of conducting two mock interviews with two passionate individuals that I’m lucky to know, and it was great to see their desire to grow and evolve in their life, with guided support.
Personally, I have worked and written my poetry for years, on and off. I take initiative to not only work every day but to serve the words that are within me. This helps aid me in my anxiety and bouts of depression. Outside of work, I am published in several anthologies: Poets Almanac 2018; Suffolk County Poetry Review 2018; 2023, 2025; Childhood Anthology by Sourav Sarkar 2022 I self-published my first chapbook in 2025 – “Inspirations in Beauty (Piece by Piece)” and had the pleasure of having Scott Gladstein as an Editor and Liv Mammone writing the most eye-opening introduction.
