“National Disability Employment Awareness Month reminds us of the valued contributions people with disabilities make in our nation’s workplaces, and the 50th anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 marks a major milestone in our nation’s ongoing quest to advance access and equity for all Americans,”

– Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Taryn M.

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act,  specifically section 504 which prohibits discrimination based on disability in programs conducted by federal agencies, in programs receiving federal financial assistance, in federal employment, and in the employment practices of federal contractors. Together with the ADA and IDEA this law works to protect children and adults with disabilities from exclusion, and unequal treatment in schools, jobs, and the community – this was the first disability civil rights law to be enacted in the United States. The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 laid the foundation for the more comprehensive Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. These laws continue to be vital tools used to advance access and equity for workers from historically underserved communities. This year’s theme, Advancing Access and Equity, was chosen to recognize the importance of making sure that people with disabilities have equal opportunities to prepare for and succeed in employment.

eVero is extremely proud to be part of this movement by ensuring a supportive and inclusive workplace for ALL individuals. We have taken the NY State Employability pledge to support the employment of qualified individuals with disabilities and provide all with an environment that meets their needs for accessibility in structure, communication, and interaction with our staff.
