Disability Employment Awareness Month 2021: eVero Employee Spotlights

Celebrating Some of Our Own Employees

Held every October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month is about bringing awareness to disability employment issues, and celebrating the contributions people with disabilities make to our workplaces. As evidenced in the NDEAM theme for October 2021, America’s Recovery is Powered by Inclusion — and it’s more important than ever to ensure equal access to meaningful employment for people of all abilities.

This year, we’re honored to share our own experience in hiring a brilliant and diverse workforce. It is with great pride that we acknowledge some of eVero’s very own employees who comprise (or were hired through) our irreplaceable Outreach Team: Jason, Patrick, Joe, Lenny, and Scott.

Our Client Success and Office Management teams are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside these dedicated young professionals, who were kind enough to share a few words with us about their career experience below. Without these guys, our company simply wouldn’t be the same.

Jason Buck

Shown here wearing orange is Jason (October 2021) winding up for a kick during eVero’s company picnic & kickball game!

How long have you been with eVero, and what do you do here?

I have been with eVero for 3 years now, and I am a Help Desk Associate for eVero software.

My job entails software support duties. This includes handling password/account issues, and answering phone calls from clients. I also work on tickets and coordinate with the development team.

What do you like most about your career at eVero?

I like the culture of the company and the great work environment.

What do you find most challenging?

It can be challenging to speak with clients who are very unfamiliar with technology, or those who are unable to follow the instructions for resolving their issue correctly.

What is your proudest moment?

While I have been with the company for 3 years, I was recently hired as a full-time employee!

(eVero would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Jason for this awesome achievement. We’re lucky to have you!)

What is an important lesson you have learned?

To be punctual.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Lately, I have been really into walking and hiking, and even occasionally foraging for plants.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as the actor for you?

I’d like to see Zac Efron play me.

Fun Fact: Jason has a sleeve of tattoos on his right arm.

5 words to describe Jason: Attentive, helpful, professional, practical, adaptable.

Patrick Clare

How long have you been with eVero, and what do you do here?

I have been with eVero for about 3 years now, and I have really enjoyed it! I am a Self-Direction Help Desk Associate for Client Support. My primary job is to take incoming calls related to supporting the eVero apps and software.

What do you like most about your career at eVero?

More than anything, my favorite part about the job is that I get to help people on a daily basis. Whether it’s help with downloading the app, a general question, or creating a ticket in our Help Desk system, I love getting the chance to assist people.

What do you find most challenging?

It can be very challenging when there are multiple calls and chat messages that come in at once. Learning to multi-task and stay grounded has been an important lesson.

Staying on top of all the updates we make can also be challenging. We release many new features every few months, so there is always something to learn about the eVero app and software.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Patrick (left) smiling next to Lenny (right) in November 2019 to celebrate the end of our Thanksgiving Food Drive.

When I’m not working, I like to do both origami, and magic! I am particularly good with card tricks, and sometimes tricks that use coins or dollar bills.

If you could live in a movie, which movie would you want to live in?

My favorite movie is Tomorrowland, so I’d love to live in a futuristic society like that.

However, I think I’d personally love to “live” in the movie events from Now You See Me, which follows a group of talanted magicians who pull off incredible tricks and heists.

Fun fact: Patrick is known around the eVero office for his awesome origami skills. And during the height of the pandemic in 2020, Patrick broadcasted live origami lessons for us to follow along with via Zoom!

5 words to describe Patrick: Respectful, organized, hard-working, courteous, patient.

Joseph Malebranche

Joe always does a great job representing eVero, like at this Job Expo event, photographed in late 2018.

How long have you been with eVero, and what do you do here?

I’ve been with eVero since 2012. I am the Office Assistant, which means that I handle the daily reception duties at the front door and on the phone, along with with the incoming/outgoing mail and other office organization duties.

When we have Outreach events, like our Interview Skills seminar or Computer classes, I’m also an Outreach Instructor. I help to distribute the materials, teach the classes, and give presentations.

What do you like most about your job? What do you find challenging?

It’s hard for me to pick anything specific that I like most or find most challenging. After all this time in my role, I really like all parts of my job, and things are always changing.

I appreciate being able to assist my coworkers with meeting prep and various business needs, and I enjoy speaking with office visitors.

What is an important lesson you have learned?

Preparation ahead of any event, and double-checking my preparation. I have learned to try and set myself up for success with planning.

What are some of your favorite eVero events?

I like them all — but my FAVORITE events are probably the summertime Long Island Ducks games.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Joe hard at work, handling reception and office assistant duties! (This photo was snapped in late 2019 in our downstairs office suite.)

I really like to go to the gym. Fitness is important to me. But I also like listening to music of all kinds.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as the actor for you?

Tom Hanks!

Fun Fact: Joe has been with eVero for the last 9 years, and there isn’t a single person who doesn’t know him. He has assisted with the preparation for nearly every event our company planned. He’s often posing for the camera as the “face of eVero” at company events and outings!

5 words to describe Joe: Approachable, clever, productive, enthusiastic, versatile.

Lenny Taveras

Lenny (left, 2019) was the recipient of honor for an #NDEAM award! Keibway (center left) gave a speech to commemorate Lenny’s outstanding job efforts.

How long have you been with eVero, and what do you do here?

I have been with eVero since December 2017 — almost 4 years. I am the Self-Direction Help Desk Lead for eVero.

My job entails making sure our clients’ needs are met with excellent customer service. My duties include working with clients over the phone and through email submissions. My job duties have also evolved since I started here, as eVero needed my assistance with communicating between different departments.

What do you like most about your career at eVero?

My favorite part of my career is talking with my team, and making a game plan to stay ahead on our duties.

What do you find most challenging?

Navigating the issues that people are experiencing, and trying to find a solution with the teams and the client. Bridging the solution with the client can be very challenging, but it’s also a good thing, because I make sure that the client always gets the resolution they need.

What is your proudest moment?

There is one experience that has stayed with me: During my 2nd year working for eVero, I received a call where the client was very emotional. I was able to keep my cool and guide them through what they needed, and my help made such a big impact on this person that they came into the office in-person to thank me.

What is an important lesson you have learned?

To always be patient and really listen to what question the client is asking me.

Lenny (left) and Patrick (right) being awesome sports about me always trying to photograph them around the office in February 2020.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I like to learn about technology, and I’ve always been interested in IT. So I like to learn about electronics and consumer products, and I’m interested in learning about how different technology and operating systems work. For example, I recently switched to an Apple phone for the first time, and I already know everything about it.

And if you ever need to know where the location services are on nearly any device… I’m your guy. Because I’ll try to find the solutions that other people might not know of.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as the actor for you?

I’d want Chris Pratt to play me; he’s hilarious.

Fun fact: Lenny has a self-hired staff who is employed through an FI that utilizes the eVero software — which makes him uniquely experienced as the ONLY person in our entire company to be closely familiar with both ends of the software.

Fun fact #2: In 2019, Lenny was the Subject of Honor for an award presented by ACCES-VR and NYSED, with his excellent customer support skills recognized at an Award’s Breakfast.

5 words to describe Lenny: Resourceful, reliable, problem-solver, knowledgeable, constructive.

Scott Weisbrot

Throwback: Scott (closest to camera) is shown smiling at an Outreach “Hire Me!” event, prior to joining us at eVero. His excellence was evident as he honed his professional skills, and we went on to hire him! The rest is now history.

How long have you been with eVero, and what do you do here?

I have worked with eVero for about 6 months, and I am an Office Assistant. I act as the receptionist, handle incoming/outgoing mail, manage the office supply list, and make sure that everything around the office is clean and organized.

I also do blogging for eVero.

What do you like most about your career at eVero?

My favorite aspects of my job duties include my morning cleaning routine, helping to manage the incoming and outgoing mail, and writing blogs.

What do you find most challenging?

I find certain questions on the phone challenging. Occasionally, I also find that requesting or returning packages to/from FedEx and UPS can be difficult.

What is your proudest moment?

My proudest moments so far include writing some awesome blogs, learning to transfer calls when answering the phone, and talking publicly to my colleagues during a Town Hall meeting (where I was the spotlight in Zoom). At the recent company picnic, I also pitched to help my team, the eVero Rockets, achieve kickball victory!

What is an important lesson you have learned?

To focus on my tasks while getting work done in the office — and to only use Teams for work purposes only.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Scott (bottom left, kneeling) pitched for The eVero Rockets at our company event in October 2021, and helped bring his team to victory!

I like to go bowling, drive to Suffolk and take photos, go to the beach, go surfing, watch soccer, watch television, and listen to music.

If you could switch your job with anyone at eVero, whose job would you want?

I would taking over the Blogging duties for Jess. I would find it cool to add clipart and pictures to the blogs, and I could also work to make cool and interesting backgrounds for upcoming events.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as the actor for you?

To play a young adult Scott Weisbrot, I’d like to see Chris Evans, Adam Lambert, or Alden Martin from VAVO. For the later scenes in the film, where I’d be farther along in life, I’d really love to see Patrick Swayze play me.

Fun fact: In the last few months, Scott has taken on blogging for eVero. Are you interested in reading more of Scott’s content? Check out some of the blogs below:
